INSIGHTS

Welcome to our latest project in Cheltenham, a culmination of months of hard work resulting in the expert restoration and extension of a dated period home – which now stands proud as a magnificently revived heritage haven.

Follow us as we take you on a journey through our process of transforming this dull and dilapidated single-storey home into a sophisticated two-storey abode, complete with a chic modern extension and pool area.

The Brief

The brief for this project was simple; revive, modernise, and extend a dilapidated heritage home and create a new double-storey extension. Most importantly, the new extension needed to complement the original period home while introducing a touch of modern elegance.

The Design

We collaborated with Page Stewart to bring this design to life. The design aimed to modernise elements of the front façade while integrating the contemporary extension seamlessly. It incorporated grooved cladding, a sweeping curved chimney and fireplace, a statement veneer and travertine kitchen, concrete floors, and a large pivot window that opens up the living areas to the outside world, providing a tranquil view of the outdoor pool and concrete terrace.

The Challenges

In this project, we needed to ensure that the residence was modernised delicately so that the beautiful bones of this home could be retained without losing any of its heritage character. Elements from this period home like the gables, stained-glass windows and fretwork all needed to be replicated or restored with care.

Our mission was to retain the home’s charming heritage character while introducing modern design elements alongside all the comforts of the modern era. We worked with Page Stewart to integrate the modern rear seamlessly with the heritage elements, using rich, warm tones and high-quality materials to elevate the design and blend the two styles expertly.

Despite this, the home retains so many of the comforts modern society has come to love, such as hydronic heating underneath the floors, a fireplace, strategically placed skylights and a large pivot window in the living room to guarantee that ample light and air flows uninterrupted through the home. This home truly is a harmonious combination of old-meets-new, and the timeless design is sure to last this family for generations to come.
