The Brief

For this project, our clients wanted to incorporate their unique take on a minimalistic, modern home. Creating a strong contemporary foundation for this project, we integrated an abundance of natural materials including Snow Stone White Polished Concrete and Blackbutt timber flooring – allowing this home build to feel organic and light.

As a family, our clients required plenty of room to play and grow. The living area seamlessly leads into an open-plan kitchen and continues to flow outside to an outstanding alfresco entertaining area, complete with a spacious deck and pool. Connecting the ground floor to the second storey, we integrated a floating staircase with a glass rail feature to collapse all barriers and welcome in a wash of natural light as you transcend to the upper floor.

The Challenges

During this build, we experienced several challenges including an unexpected water table at the start of construction which led to the decision to add an entirely new drainage system to redirect and divert this newfound water.

To ensure our clients were fully equipped to enjoy this innovative build, we installed a fully automated home system. In achieving this high-tech set up, our team of experts applied a meticulous level of attention to detail for each installation of every electrical item in the home.

Finally, we commenced this project at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in an unprecedented shortage of materials and available labour, and increased delays. Amongst the various restrictions and lockdowns, we maintained a strict schedule to manage the logistics of every necessary trade and supply to deliver this outstanding home safely and within budget.

The Design

We achieved this stunning family home in partnership with the expert architect team at John Alkemade & Associates. Multi-faceted down to every small detail, this family home reflects architectural excellence through beautifully composed depth and vibrancy. With a striking palette of mixed resources throughout the home, this build echoes dimensional intricacies and character whilst balancing elements of minimalistic elegance.

Inside this project, the architectural design reflects the spirit of a family home without compromising on the fundamentals. Whilst the polished concrete floors add an essence of luxury, they’re also equipped with hydronic heating underneath to ensure comfortable living all year round.

Upstairs, the bedrooms are framed by a collection of windows, creating an open and inviting space for every member of the family. To encourage hours of endless play, we installed a climbing wall frame and a suspended bed, allowing the kids to make the most of their time at home – even on a rainy day.

This home build never fails to accommodate the evolving needs of our client’s family, featuring a wine cellar crafted using solid Victoria Ash timber joinery, providing climate-controlled technology and additional storage space. Achieving the perfect balance of sophistication and liveability, this home also showcases an outstanding purpose-built home theatre to enjoy with a glass of wine and perhaps a few friends and family.
