From Vision to Reality: The Construction Journey of Our Brighton Heritage Renovation

Nestled in the heart of Brighton, our latest project is a testament to the power of vision, craftsmanship, and a commitment to preserving history while embracing the future. This 2023 heritage renovation and extension faced numerous challenges, transforming a frail and ageing structure into a beautiful family home ready to be enjoyed and stand the test of time.

  1. A House in Disrepair

When we first stepped onto the site, the house was in a state of significant disrepair. Years of neglect had taken a toll on the structure, with severe damp, a compromised roof, and rotted windows. The front corner of the house was sinking, causing the façade to appear misaligned, further complicating the renovation.

Adding to these structural issues, the clients were located overseas, creating a unique challenge to deliver a project that aligns with the homeowner’s vision when they can’t be physically present. It was clear from the outset that this project would require meticulous attention to detail, expert communication, and a deep understanding of heritage restoration.

  1. Crafting a Solution

Our approach to the Brighton Heritage Renovation  began with stripping the house back to its very bones while carefully preserving the original front façade. As experts in heritage homes, we recognized previous construction issues and knew how to correct them. This allowed us to restore the house while incorporating modern techniques that would enhance its longevity and energy efficiency.

We implemented a comprehensive plan that included underpinning the foundation to address the sinking corner, installing new brick vents to improve ventilation, and adding insulation to both the walls and ceiling. These upgrades rectified the structural issues and prepared the home for the future, ensuring it remains a comfortable and energy-efficient space for the next 150 years.

  1. Communicating Across Continents

Communication was a critical part of this project, especially given the clients’ overseas location. We established a robust communication system, providing weekly walkthrough videos to show progress on-site, holding regular Zoom calls to discuss any developments or concerns, and sending monthly progress reports. This approach ensured that the clients were fully informed and engaged, even from afar, allowing them to make decisions with confidence.

  1. Bringing it to Life

The revitalization of the Brighton home was not just about addressing structural issues; it was also about restoring and enhancing its historic charm. The front façade received a full facelift, including new Spanish slate tiles, re-tuck-pointed brickwork, and a refurbished tessellated porch. We also installed new wrought iron fencing and automatic gates, which complemented the Victorian details of the home.

Inside, we blended the old with the new. The original parts of the house retained their timber windows and Victorian gutter cornices, while the new extension featured modern aluminium windows. High-quality materials were used throughout, including honed Carrara marble with bullnose edging, satin nickel door hardware, and engineered timber flooring, ensuring that the home was not only beautiful but also built to last.

  1. A Future-Ready Home

The completion of the Brighton Heritage Renovation marks the successful transformation of a dilapidated house into a stunning family home that respects its heritage while embracing modern living. This renovation is a true reflection of our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and client satisfaction.

From the moment we first assessed the property’s condition to the final touches of the façade, every step of this journey was about turning a vision into reality. The Brighton home now stands as a future-ready residence and a gem of its neighbourhood.
