Our client presented us with an ambitious brief: a two-storey home with four bedrooms, a study, ensuites, separate bathrooms, a generous open-plan living area, a wine cellar, and a cinema. Outdoors, they requested a pool, alfresco dining area, pool house, and double garage – all on a narrow block. Working with Peter Wright Architects, we turned this vision into reality.
The home’s futuristic façade captures attention with its striking Alucobond matte sheet cladding and aluminium interlocking cladding in matte black, contrasted with grey polished concrete and a timber door. Inside, European oak flooring seamlessly connects the living and dining areas, enhancing the sense of space with high ceilings.
The sleek, contemporary kitchen features immaculate timber veneer cabinetry, offering ample storage and continuing the minimalistic design. The living space flows naturally to the alfresco area, where large sliding doors invite light and air, ideal for entertaining.
Despite the narrow block, we ensured a sense of spaciousness throughout. A grand timber veneer staircase leads upstairs to generous bedrooms and bathrooms, where substantial skylights flood the space with natural light. Large full-height doors, high ceilings, and commercial-grade thermally broken windows contribute to the home’s sense of spaciousness.
Downstairs, we overcame the challenge of constructing a basement below sea level in sandy soil, maintaining continuous care to keep the area dry. Meanwhile, modern luxuries abound, including hydronic heating, electric heating and cooling, a modern fireplace, and solar panels to reduce the home’s environmental impact.
